SoJo Half Marathon

We ran South Jordan Half Marathon in September. This is the first year for the So. Jordan race. It had a few glitches (not well organized)..... but it was fun! It was the first race that we have really trained for and run together. It was a nice down hill 13 miles. The race started in Copperton (cute little town at the base of the copper pit) and runs East towards the Jordan River Temple.

G & G Miles came down and took our kids to the finish. It was fun to see them along the road and then at the finish. The girls ran the last 100 yards with Jane which was neat!~
Scott's trip to the Tetons
Scott took the Varsity Scouts (14-16) to the Teton High Adventure Base.
They went white water rafting, hiking in the Tetons, played games, shot guns and other wild guy stuff.
On one of the hikes they walked past this bear.... 10 feet way. It was too busy digging in an old log to be worried about a bunch of scouts.
RAGNAR

Scott was invited to be a part of a RAGNAR team this spring. Scott's friend had a family team and they needed one more runner. June 18-19 was the race. 1000 teams of 12 (some do it with 6) run 188 miles from Logan to Park City. You run three legs of about 3-8 miles each. Some are uphill, some are hilly, some are a flat and other get a nice decline. Some are a brutal, dust-in-your-face gravel pit. Two runners are especially put to the test during two intense uphill climbs in the final legs of the race, fondly called "You've gotta be kiddin' me" and "Ragnar." (Scott was one of those).

Scott's RAGNAR run.

It's just an unbelievable experience, the team aspect of the relay is amazing. Hanging out with 12 other stinky people for 30 hours and accomplishing something together was pretty cool. Not really sleeping, or eating too much (you don't want stomach problems). Seeing beautiful country and alot of running.

A couple of highlights were...
1. The night running was such a cool experience. I ran from Coalville to Wanship on the old highway. I only saw 8 other runners.... half of which I passed... the other half passed me!!! All you really see is the bouncing tail lights up in front of you.... it's a very peaceful run.
I started the leg at about 1:30 A.M. The weather was nice and cool. In fact, I had to wear a long sleeve shirt. But as I was running South I looked up and saw a sky full of stars. It was a beautiful 8 miles!

This is a photo from East Canyon that night.
2. I don't have a picture, but the they had schools across the route that you could shower at or "sleep". It was crazy to see 1000 people crashed out on the gym floor of a high school.
3. The RAGNAR run which starts about 5 miles from Guardsman pass. It was all dirt road. Almost all up hill. Steep! In 4 miles it was a gain of 1600 feet in elevation. Yes... very steep and long. But is was great to face the challenge.

Scott is planning on running it again next year. We would really like to put together a team in 2012!!! If your interested let us know. We could use a few Ethiopians or those that have trained in Ethiopia!!! (One of Jane's Brothers and his family are currently living in Ethiopia)
West Valley Classic 5K
Miles has been running a bit with Jane to get ready for the Pocatello 5K this fall. We all decided we would run the West Valley 5K this year also to give him the race experience. It was a great time and the weather was perfect. Scott ran with Miles most of the way and Jane was chasing Lisa Harmon (Jane and Lisa both finished at about 28 Minutes). It was a lot of fun and Miles did so great! He only asked Scott to walk twice and still finished the race at 31:00.
Scott left Miles with about a half mile to go so he could go take pictures of Miles crossing the finish line.
Pocatello Marathon
Labor Day weekend is always a great weekend.
It marks the end of summer and the beginning of fall.
We usually spend Labor Day weekend in Pocatello. And for the past few years we have run an event in the Pocatello Marathon (usually the 5K).
Last year Scott ran the half-marathon and Jane ran the 5K. Jane took this year off after just having Samuel and not training. So Scott spent the summer training for the full Marathon.
Scott did well and finished in 4:30. His goal was to be at 4 hours but he underestimated "THE WALL" The last 6 miles were pure torture.
We also went to the State Fair in Blackfoot. It was a great time!
2009 Project
Well that lasted until the middle of May.
It's almost complete. Rain gutters should be on tomorrow.
AHHHH SHADE..................
Special thanks to all that helped plan, design and build the patio cover. 3 weeks ago I had 12 friends and neighbors over to lift a 28' beam into place.
Thanks!!
Pruning Trees
I know it doesn't sound like fun to many of you. But I really enjoy pruning trees. Today was a great day to prune. The sun was out and it was pretty warm for the middle of February. The kids were at a primary activity and so Briggs and I worked in the yard. Here is Briggs helping hold down all the branches as we moved them.

The Boys New Beds

With us knowing about our future addition to the family in July we have been thinking of getting bunk beds for the boys. After checking some out and thinking about it (and hearing that Scott's friend Tanner was planning to build some) Scott decided to make some bunk beds. They took about 3 weeks and really turned out pretty great.
Scott's new blog
Jane will no longer have my wild and crazy political posts to interrupt our family fun blog...
I have started a new blog for my crazy rants and wild thoughts about politics, the constitution and the market . Your welcome to peak in but beware.....

LAST SWIM
It has been such a fun year swimming at Grandpas!!! We can't believe it's time to close it up for the winter. We went for one more last swim. It's so nice... clean, clear water with no crowds to deal with. Miles and Lilly are really great swimmers now. Miles was showing off his "backstroke" to us tonight.

So if you look close you can see a callus on my second toe. I can only imagine it's from running. Well as we were all looking at it.... Briggs decided he wanted to look at his too...
School Lunch
A few weeks ago I (Scott) went to the kids school and had lunch with them. We had a ball! The food was below average but what do you expect from school lunch. After lunch we had ............ Lunch Recess. Miles wanted to play Sharks and Minnows. It's basically tag but as you tag the Minnows they become Sharks and so on..... We started with 4 of us and after 10 minutes we had 50 kids playing this. What a riot! So anyway.....
I went again today but this time I took pictures to share the fun!
